Datapac today announced renewal of its sponsorship of Special Olympics Ireland for a further five years. This announcement follows the success of the 2010 Special Olympics Ireland Games where Datapac donated a €150k managed print solution. Datapac will provide the all-Ireland logistics and warehousing requirement of Special Olympics Ireland’s year round sports, training and competition programme.
Special Olympics Ireland, established in 1978, provides sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The aim is to improve the physical fitness, motor skills and self-confidence of the athletes.
With more than 430 clubs, over 11,000 athletes and 22,000 volunteers, the logistics of the events are an expensive, complicated and resource intensive undertaking. Datapac will project manage and finance this entire operation until 2015.
Datapac will work closely with both staff members of Special Olympics Ireland and the volunteer network to coordinate the warehousing and delivery of all Special Olympic Ireland’s inventory. This includes items such as sports and games equipment, promotional products and storage of various operational items required on an ad-hoc basis for all local, regional and national events.
In the past Datapac’s sponsorship included coordinating the volunteer depot during the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games. More recently Datapac supported the 2006 Special Olympics Ireland Games in Belfast as well as the 2010 Special Olympics Ireland Games in Limerick where it operated a seven day a week logistics centre over a five week period and distributed over 345,000 items.
