Organisations in Ireland are dealing with a data explosion that is having a considerable impact on their daily business operations. Predictions from global market intelligence from IDC indicates that data storage is set to grow 10 fold to 44 zettabytes by 2020, and that the amount of data will increasingly outpace available storage.

Datapac, in association with TechPro magazine, commissioned a survey looking at how Irish organisations are coping and capitalising on data. From storage capacity to cloud flexing, loss and retrieval, this survey captures the insights of almost 200 senior Irish IT professionals regarding the risks, struggles and successes of managing data in the enterprise.

Survey findings include:

  • Average wait of almost 2 days to retrieve mission critical data when lost
  • 13% of Irish organisations that lose data never recover it
  • More than 20% store data in an unsecure location
  • 1 in 4 never test their ability to recover data
  • Two thirds at risk of non-compliance penalties
  • Almost half are unprepared for a cyber-attack
  • Amount of data stored by Irish organisations increased by 42% in the past year
