Datapac’s Karen O’Connor named as 2017 Women in Technology Finalist
Wexford, 21 September 2017 – Datapac, Ireland’s leading ICT solutions provider, has today announced that its General Manager, Dr. Karen O’Connor, has been named as a finalist for the Women Mean Business: Woman in Technology Award 2017. Karen features alongside other high profile business leaders who have been nominated for displaying excellence in their field. The prestigious awards celebrate diversity in business and recognise women in business for their outstanding and inspiring contributions.
Karen has earned and enjoyed many successes in her role at Datapac and as a business leader in Wexford. In her time as General Manager, Karen has transformed the managed services division at Datapac, driving growth and innovation for the company as evidenced by a recent €2.1M investment leading to the creation of 35 new jobs at its Network Operations Centre in Enniscorthy.
As well as strategic business development, Karen has a specialist focus on the training, development and mentoring of colleagues. She has championed work placement programmes for students and graduates, which importantly encourage young people to consider careers in STEM, as the technology sector in Ireland continues to grow. Karen believes in workplace diversity and empowers business colleagues at all levels to be at the forefront of innovation and success in the Irish tech sector.
As a director and board member of the Wexford Chamber of Commerce, Karen is passionate about job creation in local communities and having recently successfully completed her Doctorate in Business Administration at Waterford IT, she is committed to the continual pursuit of excellence in business. Karen is a huge advocate of corporate and social responsibility programmes and is deeply involved with Datapac’s work with various charities, community groups and local businesses. This recently culminated in the awarding of the Wexford CSR 2017 award earlier this year.
The Women Mean Business Conference & Awards 2017 takes place on Monday 2nd October in the Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin, where Karen and other female role models will share their stories and promote women in business. The Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise and Innovation, Ms. Frances Fitzgerald T.D., will provide the opening address at this high profile event.

“The value of dealing with an HP Gold partner in this process can’t be underestimated. Datapac provide us with a local touch and can cover the full range of our IT requirements, but when there is a specific technical requirement like this, they can bring the specialist technical resources of HP to the table. HP and Datapac had a thorough discussion with us around our requirement - and had really done their homework - and then were able to provide us with a very highly specified test platform for us to prove the application on before we committed to purchase.”
