Datapac was founded in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford in 1982, at a time when business technology in Ireland was in its infancy. In the four decades since, we have grown into one of Ireland’s leading IT providers, with a national presence and a reputation built on doing things the right way.
What has carried us through every shift in technology, every change in the market, and every challenge along the way is not a product or a price point. It is the values we hold, and the people who bring them to life.
When Datapac opened its doors in Enniscorthy in 1982, Ireland’s technology age was just beginning. Business computing was in its infancy, and the organisations that were embracing it were the ones with the vision to see where it was heading. We were one of the first four IBM dealers in the country, and within a year we were among the first to bring the IBM personal computer to Irish organisations.
In 1990 we opened our Dublin operation, a move that transformed the business from a strong regional player into a genuinely national one. Strategically located with direct access to the country’s major road networks, the Dublin base allowed us to serve customers faster and at greater scale than ever before.
As the decade progressed, so too did the technology. Networking, connectivity, and the early internet began to reshape what Irish organisations needed from their IT partners, and we broadened our capabilities to meet each new demand.
The more widespread adoption of broadband fundamentally changed what technology could do for Irish organisations. Email became business-critical, server environments became more complex, and organisations that had previously managed IT reactively began to think about it strategically.
We expanded our infrastructure capabilities during this period, helping customers build the networks and server environments that the internet age demanded, while continuing to deepen our vendor partnerships across an increasingly broad portfolio of solutions. This decade was also a time of real growth in the range of organisations we served, including meaningful inroads into the Irish public sector.
Today, Datapac is one of Ireland’s most trusted IT providers, working with organisations of every size across the public and private sectors. Our portfolio spans the full breadth of modern IT, and the depth of expertise and vendor partnerships we have built over four decades means we can deliver at a level that very few providers in Ireland can match.
Behind all of that, the standard we hold ourselves to has never changed. We still believe that the right answer matters more than the comfortable one, and that doing right by our customers, even when it is not the easiest path, is what sets a genuinely good IT partner apart from the rest.
