ISO 20000 Certification Support

Structured support to design, implement, and achieve ISO 20000

Book Your Consultation

ISO/IEC 20000 is the international standard for IT Service Management. It defines the requirements for establishing and operating a structured IT Service Management System (ITSMS) that governs how IT services are designed, delivered, and continually improved.

Organisations that achieve ISO 20000 certification demonstrate that their service management practices follow a recognised international standard. This provides assurance to customers, regulators, and partners that IT services are managed through structured governance and continual improvement.

Datapac provides ISO 20000 consultancy and implementation support to help organisations establish an effective IT Service Management System and prepare for certification.

Service Management That Holds Up Under Scrutiny

We help organisations build IT Service Management Systems that are clearly defined, consistently applied, and capable of supporting both day-to-day delivery and formal audit requirements

Why Many Organisations Struggle with ISO 20000 Certification

ISO 20000 sits at the intersection of IT service delivery and formal governance, which makes it a different challenge to most other standards. Organisations often have mature service management practices in place, but translating the way teams actually work into a framework that satisfies an external auditor is where many find the process harder than expected. These are some of the challenges we most commonly encounter:

Many organisations find that service delivery works well in some areas but varies significantly across teams or functions. When outcomes depend on the knowledge and habits of individuals rather than defined processes, it becomes very difficult to demonstrate the consistency and repeatability that ISO 20000 requires. Getting to certification means replacing that reliance on individuals with documented, governed processes that produce predictable results.

ISO 20000 requires clearly defined responsibilities across incident management, change management, service requests, and other core activities. In practice, these responsibilities are often shared informally or assumed rather than explicitly assigned. Without clear ownership, accountability gaps emerge and it becomes difficult to demonstrate that your service management framework is operating as intended.

Having service management processes in place is not the same as being able to prove they are applied consistently. ISO 20000 certification requires documented evidence that processes are followed, reviewed, and governed over time. Organisations that have not built that evidence into their day-to-day operations often find it difficult to produce at audit, particularly when it needs to span multiple teams or service areas.

How ISO 20000 Readiness Takes Shape

Most organisations working toward ISO 20000 certification already have service management processes in place. The challenge is rarely a complete absence of structure, it is that processes have developed independently across teams, ownership is assumed rather than defined, and the way work actually gets done does not always match what is written down.

Our starting point is to establish a clear picture of how service management currently operates across your organisation: what is working, what is inconsistent, and what needs to be formalised before certification becomes realistic.

From there we introduce structure where it is needed, formalising processes, clarifying accountability, and ensuring that service delivery can be demonstrated as consistent and repeatable. The focus is on making your existing operations audit-ready, not on rebuilding them from scratch.

ISO 20000 Gap Analysis

We assess your existing service management processes, documentation, and governance structures against ISO 20000 requirements. This identifies where you stand today, highlights the gaps that need to be addressed, and gives you a prioritised roadmap for the work ahead.

ITSMS Design & Implementation

We work with your team to formalise and structure your IT Service Management System around how your organisation actually delivers services. This includes defining process ownership, establishing consistent procedures, and ensuring accountability is clearly documented throughout.

Audit Preparation & Certification Readiness

We prepare your organisation for internal audit, management review, and external certification assessment. This includes reviewing your evidence base, validating that processes are being followed consistently, and ensuring your team can demonstrate to auditors that your service management framework operates as documented in practice.

Questions about our ISO 20000 Certification Support Service?

ISO 20000 is particularly relevant for organisations that provide IT services internally or externally and wish to demonstrate structured service governance and operational maturity.

ISO 20000 focuses on service management processes, while ISO 27001 focuses on information security management. Organisations may pursue one or both standards depending on governance priorities.

Yes. ISO 20000 can be implemented proportionately, with scope defined to reflect organisational size and service complexity.

Timelines vary depending on existing process maturity and scope. A structured gap analysis provides clarity on implementation effort and required improvements.
